Welcome!

We are a soil biogeochemistry lab. Our main focus is on soil organic matter dynamics at the interface between clay minerals, microbes, and plants. We are particularly interested in how plant inputs (especially roots!) interact with both the living and non-living components of soil to influence carbon and nitrogen cycling. Through lab, growth chamber, and field experiments, we bridge fundamental and applied research by studying soil-plant-microbe interactions within a broader framework of soil health and sustainable agriculture.

We are in the Environmental Health Sciences Department at the Arnold School of Public Health, University of South Carolina.

Prospective students are welcome to contact Dr. Jilling to discuss potential opportunities using the Lab Interest Form.
